Welcome to Pine Grove STEM School.  We are excited to continue to be a STEM magnet school! We at Pine Grove STEM School serve students in transitional kindergarten through sixth grade. Our students are learning about how science, technology, engineering, and math are involved in our everyday lives. Their eyes are being opened to a new world full of hands-on learning and exploration. Our teachers integrate STEM into our classrooms by means of supplementing the current curriculum with theme-based STEM units.

In addition to classroom-based STEM integration, our students have the opportunity to utilize our top-notch science lab we call the “STEM Den”.  Our students also participate in Project Lead the Way units, which is a project and problem-based curriculum where students solve real-life problems using STEM and other core curricular areas all while meeting state standards from each.

Principal John Hawley

Hello Pine Grove Bears and Families.   My name is John Hawley and I am the Principal here at Pine Grove STEM Elementary School.

I graduated from UC Riverside with a BS in Business Administration and received my teaching credential from Chapman University.  I later received my Masters of Arts in Educational Supervision and Administration.

This is my 17th  year here in the Amador County Unified School District.  For the last five years, I have been the Vice Principal at Jackson Junior High School and Ione Junior High School.  Previous to that I was an elementary teacher at Jackson Elementary and Sutter Creek Elementary schools.

I currently reside in El Dorado County with my wife, Kimberly, of 20 years and our two children.  My goal here at Pine Grove STEM Elementary School is to help support the students, staff and families in an exciting and engaging learning environment through the use of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to understand all subject areas.  I look forward to the opportunity to meet and talk with all of you.

The school site council (SSC) is a group of teachers, parents, classified employees, and students that works with the principal to develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. SSCs are mandated under California Education Code §52852 and require each school to:

  • Measure effectiveness of improvement strategies at the school.
  • Seek input from school advisory committees.
  • Reaffirm or revise school goals.
  • Revise improvement strategies and expenditures.
  • Recommend the approved single plan for student achievement (SPSA) to the governing board.
  • Monitor implementation of the SPSA.

See current SPSA: (Coming October 2021)

TK-8SSC are constituted to have equal numbers of school-related members (principal, classroom teachers and other school personnel) and parents or other community members.  Parents or community members on the SSC are selected by parents and pupils and may not be employed by the school district.

We invite parents, community members, staff and students to participate in the SSC.
